Valery Uhl , MD is our 2017 Honorary Chair. Dr. Uhl is a Radiation Oncologist and IORT Breast Cancer Specialist at Epic Care. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Contra Costa County unit of the ACR and for 18 years has co-captained a San Francisco Making Strides Against Breast Cancer team with her Eagle Scout son, Tristan. Dr. Uhl is an Assistant Adjunct Professor at the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine. She has received many honors over the years from the American Cancer Society for her decades of dedication to the ACS as well as her ceaseless fundraising. She was an honoree at the 2016 ACS East Bay Jewel Ball and received the 2015 California State Volunteer Award with her son Tristan.
Sharon Diaz, PhD (hc), RN is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Samuel Merritt University (SMU). President Diaz has served SMU since 1973, leading the institution through transition from a hospital diploma school of nursing to a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
President Diaz received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and, in recognition of her exemplary leadership, an honorary Doctor of Philosophy from Saint Mary’s College of California. Her involvement in and generosity to community service is widely recognized in such civic and professional organizations as the Head Royce School, the George Mark Children’s House, the Ethnic Health Institute, the Ladies’ Home Society of Oakland/Matilda Brown Home, Alameda County Meals on Wheels, and the Bay Area Tumor Institute.
Linda Gordon, MD, is the Imaging Director at the Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center (CARBHC), Sutter Health Alta Bates Summit Medical Center (SHABSMC). Attended UC Berkeley, majoring in Physiology. She attended University Southern California for medical school, internship, and residency in Diagnostic radiology and fellowship in Body Imaging and Intervention. Dr. Gordon is involved with several organizations focused on improving the cancer patient’s outcome; the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, as a national representative on the Community Oncology Committee and participated for seven years with the International Early Lung Cancer Action Program (IELCAP) to help forward research in CT lung Cancer screening. Additionally, Dr. Gordon participates at both CARBHC and SHABSMC on several cancer committees and local organizations to increase awareness and the outcome of a patient’s treatment and recovery from a cancer diagnosis.
